Why Marble Needs Special Care

Marble is a naturally porous stone that can be damaged by acidic substances and harsh chemicals. With proper care and maintenance, your marble products will maintain their beauty and elegance for generations.

Daily Care Tips

1. Clean Spills Immediately

Acidic liquids like wine, coffee, juice, and vinegar can etch marble surfaces. Blot spills immediately with a soft cloth—don't wipe, as this can spread the liquid.

2. Use pH-Neutral Cleaners

Always use a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for marble. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, lemon juice, or harsh chemicals that can damage the surface.

3. Use Soft Cloths

Clean your marble with soft microfiber cloths or soft sponges. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or steel wool that can scratch the surface.

4. Dry Thoroughly

After cleaning, dry marble surfaces with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and mineral deposits.

Deep Cleaning

For a deeper clean, follow these steps:

  • Mix a few drops of pH-neutral dish soap in warm water
  • Dampen a soft cloth with the solution
  • Gently wipe the marble surface
  • Rinse with clean water
  • Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth

What to Avoid

Never Use:

  • Vinegar or lemon juice
  • Bathroom cleaners
  • Bleach or ammonia
  • Abrasive cleaners or scrubbers
  • General-purpose cleaners not designed for marble

Sealing Your Marble

While most of our products come pre-sealed, marble can benefit from periodic resealing:

  • Test if your marble needs sealing by placing a few drops of water on the surface
  • If water darkens the stone or absorbs within 10 minutes, it needs sealing
  • Use a quality marble sealer following the product instructions
  • Typically, marble should be resealed every 6-12 months depending on use

Stain Removal

For stubborn stains, create a poultice:

  1. Mix baking soda with water to create a thick paste
  2. Apply the paste to the stain (about 1/4 inch thick)
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and tape the edges
  4. Let it sit for 24-48 hours
  5. Remove, rinse with water, and dry thoroughly

Pro Tip

The key to maintaining beautiful marble is prevention. Use coasters under glasses, trivets under hot dishes, and cutting boards for food preparation. A little care goes a long way!
